Real quick, the feature I already fell in love with on the N85 is the keypad lock/unlock button located on the right middle side of the phone. This is awesome. The whole phone is actually brilliant. More to come stay tuned... (post initiated on Oct 31, 2008, will contniue to be updated until I am satisfied)
So here we are eight weeks into the Widset Pet Ambassador campaign from Nokia. Yesterday I submitted a report of all my struggles and tribulations associated with this particular undertaking. I must say that all the stress, frustration and anger at that this campaign has caused me at times, has been ALL worth it. I set up a Facebook account, a widset pet application and I found that I have no friends to share this Facebook 'new land' with. Today I am happy to report that I have over two hundred friends and counting join me on Facebook. I have managed to set up my pet and have it adopted by few friends as well as adopting two pets myself. I am still not able to get the app running on my phone but hopefully it will soon get resolved....if not it's still not over till it's over. My report was named a report of the week and is published as such on consumed by s60 site, and I get to play with a new toy for few weeks as a result of that. I am loving the fact that I get to play with the newest gadgets coming out of Nokia and get to write about my experiences with them. For a total Nokia nut, there is no better experience to have. I have friends but few share my passion for the mobile world and for the latest and greatest gadgets in that world. As a result of having such a limited friend support in this arena, I decided months ago to look elsewhere for all kinds of opportunities as they relate to mobile technology of any kind. I found that Nokia's Ambassador program had opennings at the time and I decided to join. Making of this bloog and maintainig it on semi regular basis is also the result of my search for different outlets as they relate to my mobile and Nokia experience.
As you can see I am a bit irritated. It has been approximately one month since my Nokia N95-3 returned from 'Nokia hospital' and where on the second round Nokia service decided to replace my entire front assembly. I am not sure how well you can see this, but on the edge closest to you looking from top you can already see paint and scratches to the infamous paint job. I NEVER carry my phone in my pants, bag, or any other place unless it's in a Krussell leather, heavy duty holster. I take good care of my phone, yet things like that become a bit disheartening when you have dished out few hundred bucks on a top of the line device and see that despite trying to protect your investment it looks like its five years old, when the average life span of a cell phone is approximately 2 years or less.
Late last week the news of Nokia 'native' push for the non business part of the world came to light. Nokia Email service beta provides push experience from email providers like gmail, should work with yahoo, does not work with hotmail...hopefully yet. I have installed this app on Thurs last week and it turned out to be a mega headache. The phone gave me numerous error messages, it would crash and the overall performance was so slow that I ended up removing it from my phone about four different times. Most annoying thing of all was that the app DID NOT actually work once installed. With trying just about anything I could think of, adjusting settings, making sure that all the info and passwords are correct. I decided to yet again uninstall the app and let it rest. Come Saturday I had enough patience and curiosity in me again to start exploring the app. I installed it again (thinking that it would be the last time if it's still not working) and here it was, in all it's glory of very nice UI and doing what it's designed to do, meaning push email on my handset. It has worked very nicely since, not one crash and not one freeze up moment. At doing email this new app works well. You can decide what size attachements you want to use and allow, there is room for changing program options. Again it's not an email client for everyone but it's worth checking out and trying out while its still in the beta phase and it's free.
I have been using the Teashark browser now for many months. The initial release was not so good, it was slow, crashed and did not bring much love to my N95. Today the browser although still in the beta stage has gone through few revisions and I must say it's one of my most favorite browser's out there for simple operations. It's fast, easy to navigate, has multiple windows that you can easily maneuver between and did I say its fast. I like it better than opera mini and the build in browser on s60. Again it's not perfect but its pretty innovative and user friendly. When I have to load large pages and need things quick it's my browser of choice. If you have a moment or just want to try something different I encourage you to look into the Teashark it just might be what you are looking for. Any thoughts please share.
It has been a moment since it all begun back in May. I have finally picked up my device on June 14, 2008 ( Saturday mind you). When I send it out the first time I have requested that they send my device back to my work addy. That actually happened and the first time I got it at work. The second time I send it out to get it fixed, actually get it corrected over Nokia's poor labor the first time around, I requested the same thing, send it back to my work please. That did not happen I must have pissed somebody off the second time around. They have changed my front cover assembly and not only put it back together like it was. My phone does not look the same you can see some imperfections in assembly of the phone especially around the slider area and the keypad. Lesson learned avoid service at any cost, because your goods do not return in their original glory. Overall my whole experience with Nokia service has been a long (about a month of going back and forth) disappointment. I pray I never have to use their service again. On a lighter note, it has been fun having it finally back. With the firmware upgrade it is much zippier but it still falls short of the N82 that I have so learned to cherish and love. Still my baby is back and its a joy to work with it now that is much much faster than in its previous firmware skin. I got to the point of adventure and on Sunday decided to try something new. I have begun reading tutorials about how to change my font on the phone. I read one by Darla Mack and the one by Symbianworld and decided that I can do this. After a little bit of anxiety I did it !!! My current font is the courtesy of Darla Mack and the one she uses in her device, or at least did at one point. Once you remember to change the font only and ONLY on your memory card and put it in the resource/font folder it's a picnic. Again do no do it if you do not feel comfortable with such an adventure. I have changed my font since Sunday three time and have no issues and it works brilliantly. Have fun but like with anything in life do it responsibly.
So my first time I have send out my phone to Nokia was May 14th, it came back to me on May 28th and I send it out back to Nokia that same day to have it fixed and properly put together from the first time. It is now June 12th, so I have been without my phone almost a month and today I looked up the status of my repair to find that my Nokia is slowly making its way back home. Hopefully it will arrive here by tomorrow but who knows. My concern is also that my phone will not be put together well like it was when I send it to Nokia originally. Nokia service you disappoint me but I will leave the last words for when my baby gets home and I have a moment with my phone FINALLY. It has been a long time too long for someone who needs their phone for work 24/7, not having a phone is not even an option. Still waiting...and that is not a very comforting thought.
Our Nokia phones are already smart and mutlitasking what if you added another piece to this very cool equation a
'visual voicemail'. A servcie called YouMail check it out here YouMail website becomes your primary voicemail. It's pretty cool, fast to sign up and most of all FREE. Hop on and check it out, this is the first day using it, will keep you posted. Again this is just the beginning of playing wiht it but it appears to be a very useful solution. Please watch your text messaging charges if you are on a limited plan. Most of all just check it out for the fun of it, perhaps you will find it cool enough to try it out and see how it works for you. If you feel like sharing drop me a line thanks and have a good weekend. r.

I have been a cell phone fanatic for a long time. There were times in my life that it mattered more than others. Today I find the buzz of mobile telephony a recluse. I don't know why but I chose to work with people in everyday professional life. By day I am a mental health professional and by night I surf the web for new worlds to be yet discovered. Having a 3 year old, a family, and a job that calls to duty 24/7/365 is a bit of a challenge to find some free time, the me time. I try to steal the minutes of the day for myself and indulge in cyber silence, my world completely separate from my work, patients, clients, daily tribulations. I find that the more I explore the s60 platform the more I enjoy all that it has to offer. Initially a cell phone was just that, a phone that could be ported and scarcely used for calls due to its then outrageous rates. I have had a cell phone of one sort or another since 1993. My very first cell phone was of course a Motorola. I huge brick that died in hours. Could store numbers and not much else. It was all I needed since at the time I had long commute times from university to hospital, to other places like going home to sleep once in a while. It was not a perfect companion but it was a start. Today few good years later. I can safely say I can't live without my phone. My current phone and primary is a Nokia N95-3 and I don't know what I would do without my gadget by my side and on my bed stand at night. My daughter already knows that she is never to play with my phone as it is the tool I use for work. She is almost religious about relating this information to me at least once a week. I never leave home without two spare batteries, charger, bluetooth (currently plantronics voyager 520), connectivity cables for sync. When my daughter was born in the summer of 2004, I have been known to leave my phone at home, which for me is really not an option given the fact that I am on call 24/7 for my team as support. It was the first time in my life that I have experienced a true sense of sleep deprivation and what it can do to humans. I not only forgot my phone few times, and had to run back home and get it but also have worn one blue, one black sock or black and gray sock. Forgetting a watch which is also another staple became so routine I had to learn to rely on other sources to provide me with that information so I would not miss my meetings and appointments. I have come to love Nokia so much and depend on it for my everyday use that few months ago I also joined the s60 Ambassardor program. I am happy to say that people over at s60 are super nice and take the time to read my reports I submit, that is when time permits. It has been a great experience owning a device that people go crazy for and are true passionates of both the Nokia brand and technology behind the name. I hope to continue to learn more and more about s60 and its limitless world.
